Can We Command Doubt and Unbelief to Leave the Room?

I suppose that you could command a person who is spreading doubt and unbelief to leave the room, but you can’t command doubt and unbelief themselves to leave the room.  There is no biblical precedent for doing this, and Scripture shows us other ways to deal with doubt and unbelief.

If you could command unbelief to leave the place where you’re ministering, Jesus would have known that and He would have fixed the unbelief problem at Nazareth by commanding unbelief to leave.  Jesus did not demonstrate any way to make unbelief leave, so you don’t have one either.  He just marveled at their unbelief and could not do anything major there (see Mark 6:1-6).

The reason in the case of unbelief is clear – it is a matter of the heart, and you have no control over other people’s free will.  Jesus could not MAKE the people of Nazareth believe His message when they chose not to believe it.

The case with doubt is similar, but the issue then becomes communicating the Word to people so that they will operate in faith instead of doubt about an issue.  The more people hear the Word, the more it will drive out doubt.
