Can You Cast a Demon out of Yourself?
Yes.
You have authority over ALL demons, so that would include any that are afflicting you.
Luke 10:19:
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Given that you can resist the devil himself and he will flee from you, you can certainly resist any of his demons and they will flee from you as well.
James 4:7:
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
The devil can’t be in more than one place at a time or influence more than one person at a time himself, so his work is mostly subcontracted to his spiritual goons. They are the ones you deal with directly. Paul acknowledges that we have to deal with spiritual rogues who have their own hierarchy.
Ephesians 6:12:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
This list does not include lowly individual demons who we can assume answer to these others and run around trying to do their bidding.
Note in passing that we are told to cast out demons (the bottom of Satan’s spiritual hierarchy), but we are nowhere commanded to “cast out” anything higher up, including the devil himself. You resist them with the Word; you don’t’ “cast them out.” There is no record of Jesus or anyone else ever “casting out” a principality, power, a ruler of darkness of this world, or spiritual wickedness in high places the way that some purport to do today (but don’t actually succeed in doing because the practice has no biblical support). You can resist them in your own life, but you cannot force them to stop operating at all in your town. They have a right to be there. But we have the right to share the good news that sets others free so that individual people can get out from under their influence.
Freedom is part of your birthright in Christ. You have glorious liberty.
Romans 8:21:
Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Jesus said that you can be set free by knowing the truth. Therefore, it must be possible to be set free from a demon simply by knowing the truth.
John 8:32:
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
So the shocking final answer to this question is that while you can cast a demon out of yourself, you can actually get free without you or anyone else casting a demon out! The only power demons have over you is the power you give them by believing and speaking their deception. When you know the truth and believe it and speak it, you cancel that demon’s influence in your life. Demons can only operate in your life with your consent, which most people give without realizing what is really going on. What is written in the Word is far more powerful than any demon. It is “game over” for a demon when you stop paying attention to its lies and only pay attention to the Word.
