Does God Heal You in Response to Your Faith?

God already healed you by the stripes of Jesus (1 Peter 2:24), so He certainly does not do anything new about your healing because you release faith.  He does not need any additional stipes to be laid on Himself just because you approached Him in faith.  So He does not really heal you in response to your faith.  Your faith responds to what He already did and you receive the healing He paid for by being beaten by the Romans.

What about where Jesus told people that their faith had made them well?  (See According to Your Faith Be It Done unto You for the specific Scriptures.)  It is certain that their faith did not “move God” or “move Jesus” to heal them.  These people were responding to the fact that Jesus was the Anointed One.  Their faith did not MAKE Him the Anointed One.

So you can receive healing by exercising your faith, but God does not “produce” that healing in response to your faith.  Your healing is already there because of what Jesus did; you simply access it.  God doesn’t have to “move” or do anything new.

To put this into perspective, consider how you would answer the following question: Does God SAVE you in response to your faith?  Well, your faith certainly responds to something Jesus already provided and you are “saved by grace through faith” according to Ephesians 2:8-9.  However, what Jesus did on the cross was certainly not in response to your faith!  Your faith responded to what Jesus did on the cross!  Jesus did not have to go back to a cross to shed more blood to save you just because you exercised faith.  The stripes Jesus took for your healing were likewise not in response to your faith, but your faith can respond to the fact that Jesus bore stripes for your healing.

Is this all just splitting hairs over a technicality?  I don’t think so.  The kind of mentality that says that God heals you in response to your faith goes together with the lie that God makes an individual determination about healing for each person.  The idea that your faith causes God to make up His mind to heal you is a dangerous untruth that can stop you from ever getting healed.
