Heaven’s Car Keys

Suppose I gave you the keys to one of my cars.  Two things are now true.  First, you can drive my car.  Second, I cannot drive my car – because you have the keys!

If that car were now to pick anyone up or be a blessing to anyone, it wouldn’t be because I did anything new.  You would have to use it.  If you didn’t use it, nothing would happen and nobody would get any benefit from my car.

Matthew 16:19 shows us that the keys to the kingdom of heaven have been given to us.  Two things are now true.  First, you can use those keys to bind and loose things.  Second, God cannot use those keys to bind and loose things – because we have the keys!

If anyone gets a blessing from the use of those keys, it won’t be because God does anything new.  We have to use them.  If we don’t use them, nothing will happen and no one will get any benefit from anything those keys can bind and loose.

People moan about why God “allows” things, but the truth is that WE allow things that we should use our keys to NOT allow.  Sickness is a prime example.  Rather than getting mad at God for “allowing” a disease to come upon someone, we should DISALLOW it.  We can use our heavenly keys to stop sickness from afflicting someone as long as we can get that person’s permission.

I used to have a keychain that had a picture of Florida on it so I could say that I owned the Florida keys.  But as long as it was hung up, the keys attached to it didn’t do anything.  Most Christians leave their keys hung up somewhere all their lives when they could be using the keys to accomplish much on the earth.  It’s not because these folks are lazy; it’s because no one has told them that they have those keys or explained what those keys do.
