Is Arthritis Caused by Unforgiveness, Demons, or Something Else?
We know that a “spirit of infirmity” like the one in Luke 13:11-16 can cause someone to be crippled with arthritis-like symptoms. However, we cannot use that to “prove” that every case of arthritis is demonic. There are other cases of lame people walking where no deliverance from demons is mentioned in conjunction with it; Matthew 15:30-31 is one such example.
For those who were not demonized, there is no indication in Scripture that unforgiveness was the root issue.
Therefore, I cannot state that arthritis is always caused by unforgiveness, demons, or something else when nothing else is mentioned about the matter in Scripture.
I have personal experience seeing certain people completely healed of severe crippling as soon as they chose to forgive, but I refuse to preach my personal experience as doctrine. Only the Word determines doctrine. After all, you might have a different set of experiences. You may also encounter people who have been in unforgiveness who get healed of crippling conditions, but you can’t just assume that if someone has arthritis, he also has unforgiveness! Nor can you be sure that he has a spirit of infirmity or some other particular problem. I remember calling out a person in a meeting who was healed instantly of arthritis in front of everyone and neither unforgiveness nor a demon was involved with the matter. Again, the general rule is not to be dogmatic on matters that are not firmly settled in the Bible!
Be careful to not believe any book that purports that certain physical conditions are always caused by certain demons or certain sins. Such teaching is contrary to the Bible.
