Objection: Psalm 103:3 Refers to Eternity

The well-regarded denominational speaker behind this objection asserts that David meant that SOMEDAY all our diseases will be healed – when we’re in heaven.  (He does not believe that we have any covenant right to healing now and thinks that God picks whom to heal in this life based on criteria known only to Himself based on what is supposedly “best” for each person.)

However, that doesn’t fit the context of the verse:

Psalm 103:3:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Does God wait until you get to heaven to forgive your sins?  NO!  They’re forgiven the moment you receive Jesus – in this life.  It makes no sense that David would state something that is clearly for right now and then tack on something else that you can only have later.

Another reason why this can’t apply to heaven is that your body will NEVER be healed in heaven!

If you die today, you will be absent from the body and present with the Lord.  You will not be in heaven with a healed body; you will be in heaven without a physical body.  When Jesus returns to the earth, you will be joined to a new body that has never been sick and never will be sick.  That body can never be healed of “all its diseases” because it will never have had a disease and never will have one.  No one ever gets sick in heaven and needs to be healed of “all his diseases.”

So this verse has to be talking about your current mortal body.

Another thought – Jesus had to live as an Old Covenant Man.  Where would He get the idea that everyone should be healed so that He could minister healing to the masses with confidence?  There are other verses, but this certainly could have been one of them.
