Psalm 107:17-20:
Fools because of their transgression and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
Notes on Psalm 107:17-20:
There are two good ways to look at this passage. First, God’s Word brings healing – it is life to all your flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22). Second, God sent Jesus – the living Word – and healed us.
This passage is good for people who have blown it and are sick as a result. Such people can still be saved out of their distresses. It isn’t automatic; in this passage He only saved them after they cried out to Him. But when they did, He didn’t say, “You made your bed, so you lie in it. You slept with the dogs and woke up with the fleas. You had it coming. Too bad to be you.” He showed them His mercy, and He is the same today (Malachi 3:6), so He will show you just as much mercy.
