Romans 2:4:

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Notes on Romans 2:4:

It is God’s goodness, not His judgments, that lead men to repentance.   You can see in the book of Revelation that God’s judgments, though fully deserved by those who receive them, do NOT lead people to repentance.  They are punishment for those who do not repent, not incentives for people to repent. (See Revelation 16:1-2, Revelation 16:10-11).  Jesus did not run around punishing everyone for sin.  Instead, He demonstrated God’s goodness as He healed the sick.
