Should I Pray for More Faith?
NO!
Ignore the suggestion of a popular website as well as a popular author and throw this idea into the dumpster where it belongs. Praying for more faith is a complete waste of time. The disciples even tried asking for more faith, and it didn’t work. Jesus just told them what would happen if they used the faith they had, negating the idea that getting more faith was the issue. USING their faith was the issue, as only a small amount of faith could do a miracle.
Luke 17:5-6:
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
And the Lord said, if ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea, and it should obey you.
Jesus didn’t say, “Sure, boys, here’s some additional faith in answer to your prayers.” So He’ll never say that to anyone today.
God has given to every man the measure (the same amount) of faith (Romans 12:3). That means that for Jesus to walk in our shoes as a Man, He had to have the same measure of faith that we get. Why would we need more? Clearly, He did more with His faith than any of us, but He showed us what is possible with our faith. (If we did not have the same potential to believe that He had, we would not be able to do the works He did, as He said we would in John 14:12.)
If you want to walk in faith more, spend more time reading and speaking what the Bible says. The general faith you have can believe and receive things, but it goes to waste if you don’t know specific Scriptures you can apply to your situation. Paul’s comment that faith comes by hearing the Word (Romans 10:17) is in the context of faith for something specific after learning what God has to say about a matter. A sinner cannot believe in Jesus if he has never heard about Jesus. He has the faith that God gave him but no ability to apply it to salvation from hell until he hears what Jesus did for him.
You have the faith that God gave you, but if you don’t know that healing belongs to you because of the physical abuse Jesus suffered in your place, you have no ability to apply your faith and receive your healing.
The better you know the Word, the easier your faith walk gets because you know what specifically to believe with the faith that God has already given you. You don’t need more faith; you just need more knowledge of what you should believe with the faith that you already have so that you can get specific.
So don’t try to get more faith – USE the faith that you already have.
