Should I Use Meditation to Be Healthier?

Yes, but it needs to be what the Bible calls meditation where you focus your mind on God’s Word and speak it, not Eastern meditation where you empty your mind and chant the same meaningless thing repeatedly.  The former is strongly encouraged by the Bible; the latter will get you into all kinds of trouble with the occult and Eastern false religions.  One particular type of meditation center was the rage when I was in college a long time ago.  Their ads stressed that it was “not a religion.”  But if you went there, you were asked to bring a fruit offering and place it before a picture of the “guru” in India who started the movement.  This kind of meditation has its roots in Eastern religion and is incompatible with Christianity.  The Bible tells us what to think about (Joshua 1:7-8, Psalm 1:1-3, Philippians 4:8 and elsewhere); it never tells us to not think at all.

However, you should not shy away from meditating God’s way just because Satan has counterfeited the idea.  God’s meditation has nothing to do with what physical position you’re in or having to escape to some ideal location; it is simply reminding yourself of God’s Word and speaking it to yourself.  In fact, the word for meditate in Joshua 1:7-8 is also translated utter, imagine, speak and talk in some other verses.

Meditating on God’s Word will renew your mind, and renewing your mind will result in transformation and knowing God’s will (Romans 12:2).  When you give yourself wholly to the things God says and meditate on them, your profiting will appear to everyone (1 Timothy 4:15).

Proverbs 4:20-22 makes it clear that you must think about the Word of God, and when you do, you will be healthier!
