Objection: You Shouldn’t Complain When God Punishes Your Sin

Lamentations 3:38-39:
Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?
Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

Anyone thinking along these lines needs to read their New Testament!  I understand that this verse in Lamentations is in the Bible, but so are plenty of other Old Testament verses that do not apply to us under the New Covenant.  These Old Testament verses were written for you, not to you.

You have to be way out of line to get punished with sickness under the New Covenant, though it’s not impossible.

The Good News is that your sins were already punished when they were laid on Jesus.  Therefore, He has no interest in punishing the same sins a second time by laying sickness on you after He already laid it on Jesus (see Isaiah 53).  God does not expect you to pay the ramson for your sins that Jesus already paid!
