Objection: All Spiritually-Produced Healing Today Is of the Devil

This lie permeates many denominations today.  It is one way to justify the fact that they never see any miracles while some of us see a lot of very notable miracles.  That is nothing new.  F. F. Bosworth wrote in his excellent book “Christ the Healer” back in the early 1900’s that the very people who should be doing the works of Christ were warning people away from where the works of Christ were being done.  People would hand out anti-healing literature to those who were on their way to his large healing crusades.  And this lamentable behavior goes back a lot farther than that.  The Pharisees, who were jealous of Jesus’ crowds, told the people that what Jesus was doing was of the devil!  Of course, you can see why the devil promotes that scare tactic.  He doesn’t want anyone to be healed because that gets in the way of his agenda to steal, kill and destroy.

A couple door-knockers asked me if I knew that prayer could change my life.  I told them that I knew that because the Lord had healed me of allergies that had bothered me since I was young.  Immediately, one of them exclaimed, “NO, the Lord did not heal you!  He doesn’t move that way anymore.  He uses DOCTORS today.  Your healing was OF THE DEVIL!”  I said, “So based on what you’re saying, God isn’t nice enough to heal me anymore, but the devil is.  That means that the devil is now nicer than God, so I think we should worship the devil!”  They actually got scared and took off in a hurry.

I hope they came to understand the irony of their position.  (I was making a point; I don’t actually worship the devil, just so you know.)

The REAL Jesus was manifested to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).  The devil had oppressed people with sickness and Jesus healed them (Acts 10:38).  Jesus has not changed (Hebrews 13:8) and the devil has certainly not changed either.  He is still the father of lies.

God’s stated will is for us to be in health (3 John 2).  Jesus came to give us abundant life and Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).  Why would Satan do things that take you out of his will (sickness) and into God’s will (health)?

At this point, the objector will probably talk about people who are healed in voodoo ceremonies, which ARE of the devil.  This, to them, proves the Satan is the one healing today.  However, you will never go to a voodoo ceremony and see Jesus glorified and credited with the healings, while at our services and those of others like us, people get healed and Jesus gets the glory.  In fact, people may get saved because they see the miracles that confirm the gospel message.  Besides, if you go to Haiti, the richest person in the village may be the voodoo priest because the “healings” are temporary.  When you get sick again, you have to bring a goat or another offering, and the voodoo priest keeps getting richer at your expense.  This is different from Jesus, who healed without charge and told His disciples to freely give what they had received freely (Matthew 10:8).

Since the devil is the one who oppresses with sickness, he can temporarily “heal” by stopping the oppression for a time, but he’s trading up.  You get your temporary healing at the voodoo hut, and you also get demons working in you because you opened yourself up to them by submitting to voodoo.

Reiki is basically voodoo for “sophisticated” people who prefer getting demonic power channeled into them without going to a voodoo priest.

However, we know people who were healed a long time ago who are still healed!  God doesn’t run a temporary healing racket.

I know firsthand that plenty goes on at bars and clubs that is “of the devil” – drunkenness, people pairing off to fornicate, people fighting and screaming, singing and playing suggestive music (that was sometimes my part), and so on.  Never have I seen anyone healed just because he went to a bar.  I never heard anyone at a club speak in tongues either, though some people’s slurred speech might have made one wonder.  If these things are of the devil, it makes no sense that healing and tongues would not manifest in a place where the devil has his way.
